about

hope is when things that are ordinary somehow feel extraordinary.

song-wise, i wanted the E string to have a life of its own on this song -- that was the starting point. so, this song is for the low E string : )

there's a bridge in this song -- a quiet departure into another place where it just so happens that traffic seeps in. this was unexpected (you'd think i'd know by now), and this quiet, listening part is as important as the outwardly building, "hopeful" parts to me.

there's a lick in that quiet section that must have been inspired by the song from the animated film american tale -- "somewhere out there." it's a fitting phrase in this song, i think.

one more note: i am fascinated with harmonics and how sound waves behave. the acoustic guitar really knows how to throw its voice. i hear the ting of a triangle on this song for sure... the guitar can rustle up and channel so many other instruments through simple sound waves. it's magic.
